Samsung Refrigerator
27 fault codes documented
Buzzing Sound — Normal refrigerant flow
A buzzing sound is heard. This is a normal sound caused by refrigerant gas moving through the sealed pipes as the Refrigerator cools or freezes.
Clicking or Chirping Sound — Normal operation start/end
A sound similar to a car engine ignition, described as clicking or chirping, is heard. This is a normal operating sound that occurs when the Refrigerator starts or ends an operation.
Condensation on Interior Walls — Moisture entering the Refrigerator
Moisture or water droplets are forming on the interior walls of the Refrigerator. This is usually caused by warm, humid air entering the Refrigerator, often due to an open door or high-moisture foods.
Control Lock On — Main panel buttons disabled
The main control panel is disabled, and the Lock indicator is on, or blinks if any button is pressed. This feature prevents accidental setting changes.
Cooling Off Mode On — Refrigerator not cooling
The Refrigerator is in Cooling Off mode (also called Shop mode). In this mode, the fan motor and lights operate, but compressors do not run, so the Refrigerator and freezer do not get cold. The display shows '0' on Refrigerator temperature and 'FF' on freezer temperature, and a chime sounds.
Cracking Sound — Plastic parts contracting/expanding
Knocking or cracking noises are heard. These noises are normal and occur as plastic parts contract and expand due to temperature changes or during the defrosting cycle.
Dispenser Lock On — Dispenser panel buttons disabled
The dispenser panel buttons and dispenser lever are locked, preventing their use. This feature is designed to prevent accidental use.
Door Alarm Blinking — Door left open
The door alarm sounds and the alarm indicator blinks. If the door remains open for 5 minutes, internal lights will also blink for 10 seconds. This is a normal alert for an open door.
Refrigerator/Freezer Does Not Operate — No power or warm temperatures
The Refrigerator or freezer is not turning on, or it is running but the temperature inside remains warm. This indicates a power supply issue or an incorrect temperature setting.
Frost Around Vents — Vents are blocked
Frost is visible around the Refrigerator vents. This usually happens when food items are obstructing the vents, impeding proper air circulation.
Frost on Interior Walls — Door not sealing
Frost or ice buildup appears on the interior walls of the Refrigerator. This often occurs when the door is not closing properly or the door gasket is dirty, allowing warm, moist air to enter.
Glass Shelf Upside Down — Shelf stopper not working
A Refrigerator shelf has been put into the Refrigerator upside down. This prevents the shelf stopper from working correctly, which could lead to the glass shelf falling and causing personal injury.
Hissing Sound — Water dripping on defrost heater
A sizzling or hissing sound is heard. This is a normal sound that occurs during a defrost cycle when water drips onto the defrost heater.
Ice Does Not Dispense — Jammed ice or water issue
No ice is coming out of the dispenser. This can be due to jammed ice, an improperly inserted ice bucket, or issues with the water supply.
Ice Maker Buzzing Sound — Water supply disconnected
The ice maker produces a buzzing sound. This typically happens when the ice maker function is activated but the water supply to the Refrigerator is not connected.
Ice Maker Does Not Make Ice — Various issues preventing ice production
The ice maker is not producing ice, or production is very slow. Several factors can cause this, including recent installation, high freezer temperature, or locked dispenser controls.
Interior Wall is Hot — Heat-proof piping working
The interior wall of the Refrigerator feels hot to the touch. This is a normal function of the heat-proof piping in the front corners, which prevents condensation.
Refrigerator Has Odors — Unpleasant smell inside
An unpleasant smell is present inside the Refrigerator, which typically indicates spoiled food or strong-smelling items that are not properly sealed.
Sabbath Mode Active — Buttons and display non-functional
The Refrigerator is in Sabbath mode, where the buttons, display, and internal lights do not function, though the Refrigerator continues to cool. This mode is active for 85 hours or until manually deactivated.
Third-Party Water Filter Installed — Leakage and damage risk
A non-Samsung water filter has been installed. Unapproved filters can lead to leaks, damage to the Refrigerator, and potential electric shock.
Top Internal LED Blinks — Door left open too long
The top internal LED light blinks. This is a normal alert to indicate that the door has been left open for too long.
UV LED Lamp Staring — Eye strain due to ultraviolet rays
Staring directly at the UV LED lamp for extended periods of time. This can cause eye strain due to the ultraviolet rays emitted by the lamp.
Water Filter Indicator On or Blinks — Filter needs replacement
The Water Filter indicator is illuminated or blinking, usually red, when you open the door. This serves as a reminder that the water filter needs to be replaced after about 6 months or 300 gallons of water.
Water Flow Weaker Than Normal — Low water pressure
The water dispensed from the Refrigerator's dispenser is flowing at a slower rate than usual. This indicates that the water pressure supplied to the Refrigerator is too low.
Water Valve Buzzing Sound — Ice maker filling with water
A buzzing sound is heard specifically for ice maker models. This occurs when the water valve opens to fill the ice maker with water.
Whirl Sound — Fan operation
A sound like a whirl is heard. This is a normal operating sound that occurs while the Refrigerator's fan is running.
Whooshing Sound — Pressure equalizing
A whooshing sound is heard when opening and closing the Refrigerator door. This is a normal sound caused by pressure equalizing inside the Refrigerator.
