Code 39-14 Fan Speed Error

Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 39-14 mean?

The fan's actual speed does not match the commanded speed, either spinning too slow when asked to speed up, or spinning when commanded to be off.

Common Causes

  • Partial physical blockage of the fan blade.
  • Ice buildup on the fan blade.
  • Extreme coil blockage heavily loading the fan blade.
  • Fan motor bearings with high resistance to spinning.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the fan blades for any obstructions, debris, or ice buildup that might be preventing free movement.

  2. 2

Check the outdoor coil for significant blockages from dirt, leaves, or other debris.

  3. 3

Ensure there is no heavy resistance when manually trying to spin the fan blades (when the power is off).

  4. 4

If the problem persists after clearing visible obstructions, a professional should inspect the fan motor and bearings.
