Code 17-06 Lost BTM Communication — Bluetooth module not communicating with control board

Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 17-06 mean?

The Bluetooth module fails to send periodic status messages to the PCM (control board) for 2 consecutive minutes after unit power-up. This means the service app will not be able to connect to the unit. The fault clears when a single good message is received.

Common Causes

  • Loose wire harness between PCM and Bluetooth module.
  • Damaged wire harness.
  • Faulty Bluetooth module.
  • No power to the Bluetooth module.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the wire harness between the PCM and the Bluetooth module.

  2. 2

Ensure both ends of the harness are fully seated on the board header.

  3. 3

Check for any visible wire damage on the harness and repair if necessary.

  4. 4

If there is no green or red LED on the Bluetooth module, check for 18-30 VAC between pins 1 and 3 at the Bluetooth module connector end of the harness (technician step).

  5. 5

If voltage is present and the code is active, replace the Bluetooth module.
