Code 35-11 Compressor High Compress Limiting — High compression ratio detected, system limiting capacity

Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 35-11 mean?

The system has detected a high compression ratio that cannot be adjusted by Automatic Envelope Management (AEM). The next startup will operate at a 25% reduced capacity. Each hour of operation without faults will gradually restore capacity. Repeated occurrences can lead to a lockout.

Common Causes

  • Overcharge of refrigerant.
  • Coil blockage.
  • Loss of airflow across the heat exchanger.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Allow the system to operate; it will attempt to recover by reducing capacity.

  2. 2

Inspect the outdoor unit coils for blockages (e.g., dirt, debris) and clean if necessary.

  3. 3

Ensure there is adequate airflow across the heat exchanger.

  4. 4

If the problem persists or recurs, contact a qualified technician.
