31-19

Code 31-19 High Pressure Disable - Discharge pressure too high to start compressor.

Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 31-19 mean?

This fault occurs when the discharge pressure is too high (above 620 psig) to safely start the compressor. The system will remain inoperable until the refrigerant pressures drop to an acceptable range. This can often be caused by extremely high ambient temperatures.

Common Causes

  • Discharge pressure exceeding 620 psig.
  • Extreme high ambient temperatures around the outdoor unit.
  • High refrigerant saturated pressure preventing compressor startup.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Wait for the ambient temperatures to decrease, as the system will become operable once pressures normalize.

  2. 2

Ensure the outdoor unit is not directly exposed to excessive sunlight or heat sources.

  3. 3

Check that the outdoor unit has adequate airflow and is not obstructed by debris or landscaping.

  4. 4

If temperatures are moderate and the fault persists, contact a qualified technician to check refrigerant levels and system components.
