E5 — Grill is too Hot

What does E5 mean?

The grill has detected an excessively high temperature. The grill will automatically run a shutdown procedure if it is hot, and the lid should remain closed during this process.

Common Causes

  • Excessive ash or grease buildup
  • Uncontrolled burn or malfunction causing overheating

    Keep the grill lid closed and allow the grill to complete its shutdown procedure and cool completely. Do not unplug or power off during shutdown.

    Once cooled, power off the grill and unplug it from the power source.

  3. 3

    Open the grill lid and remove the cooking grates, FLAVORIZER bars, heat diffuser, and heat baffle.

  4. 4

    Clean the cookbox and burn pot of any ash or debris, directing it into the ash and grease system. Allow time for ash to fully extinguish.

  5. 5

    Reinstall the heat baffle, heat diffuser, FLAVORIZER bars, and cooking grates. Clean any ash or grease from inside the ash and grease system.

  6. 6

    Plug the grill into the power source, power it on, and begin your cook.
