Room Lamp does not light

Room Lamp does not light up - Refrigerator or Freezer light failure

Samsung · Refrigerators

What does Room Lamp does not light mean?

The internal light in either the Refrigerator or freezer compartment is not turning on when the door is opened. This can be due to various electrical issues or the lamp itself.

Common Causes

  • Door switch contact is not normal.
  • Lamp is OFF due to bimetal operating (overheating protection).
  • Inner lamp filament is cut (bulb is burnt out).
  • Issue with the control relay on the PCB.
  • Bad connection of wires.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Unplug the Refrigerator from the wall outlet for safety.

  2. 2

Open and close the Refrigerator or freezer door several times to ensure the door switch is not stuck.

  3. 3

If the lamp was recently on and very hot, wait for a few minutes for any safety bimetal to reset, then check again.

  4. 4

If comfortable and after ensuring power is off, gently remove the lamp cover and check the light bulb. If it appears burnt out, replace it with a new one of the correct type.

  5. 5

If the lamp still does not light, professional service may be needed to check internal wiring or control board.
