Earth leakage breaker activated

Earth Leakage Breaker Activated - Electrical trip

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries · Air Conditioners

What does Earth leakage breaker activated mean?

The earth leakage breaker has tripped, cutting power to the unit. This often occurs due to low insulation resistance in the compressor or an improper breaker type for inverter units.

Common Causes

  • Low insulation resistance in the compressor
  • High-harmonic issues in the electrical system
  • Unsuitable electric leakage breaker (not high-harmonic compatible)

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Reset the earth leakage breaker. If it immediately trips again, do not force it.

  2. 2

Ensure the electrical breaker installed is a high-harmonic compatible type, especially for inverter-equipped units.

  3. 3

If the unit has been off for a long period or recently installed, allow 6 hours with power ON to energize the crankcase heater, which may help evaporate migrated liquid refrigerant and resolve low insulation resistance.

  4. 4

If the issue persists, a qualified technician should check the compressor's insulation resistance and the power source.
