E48 - Outdoor fan motor anomaly

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries · Air Conditioners

What does E48 mean?

The remote control displays E48 (while the indoor unit's green LED keeps flashing and red LED stays off). This indicates an anomaly with the outdoor fan motor rotation. The system stops if the fan speed drops below 75 min⁻¹ for 30 seconds, and may restart after 3 minutes. If this anomaly occurs 3 times within 60 minutes after the initial detection, the error is permanent.

Common Causes

  • Foreign material obstructing the fan propeller
  • A defective outdoor fan motor
  • A defective outdoor unit control PCB
  • Dust on the outdoor unit PCB
  • A blown F3 fuse on the outdoor unit PCB

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Turn off the main power to the outdoor unit immediately.

  2. 2

Carefully inspect the outdoor fan propeller for any foreign material (leaves, twigs, debris) and remove them if safe to do so.

  3. 3

Try to gently turn the fan propeller by hand to check if it rotates smoothly without resistance. If not, do not force it.

  4. 4

If the issue persists, contact a qualified technician to inspect the fan motor, F3 fuse, or outdoor unit PCB.
