Anti-frost control activated — RUN LED flashes 8 times, TIMER LED flashes 5 times

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries · Air Conditioners

What does 85 mean?

The anti-frost control has activated, causing the compressor to stop during cooling operation. This is often a normal protective function when the outdoor temperature drops very low (e.g., –28°C or lower for 40 minutes during heating operation).

Common Causes

  • Very low outdoor ambient temperatures
  • Accumulation of ice/frost on the outdoor coil
  • Unit operating in conditions requiring anti-frost protection

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Allow the unit to complete its automatic anti-frost cycle; this is often a normal operation in cold conditions.

  2. 2

Check the outdoor ambient temperature to ensure it's not excessively low.

  3. 3

Ensure the outdoor unit is not obstructed by snow or ice, which could hinder proper airflow and heat exchange.

  4. 4

If the unit frequently enters anti-frost mode in moderate temperatures, consult a professional.
