Dry running (57) - Water is missing or system pressure is too low

Grundfos · ALPHA3 Pump

What does 57 mean?

The pump is running without sufficient liquid or the system pressure is below the required minimum. This is a protective measure to prevent pump damage, but it halts normal operation.

Common Causes

  • Insufficient water in the heating system or circulating loop.
  • Air pockets trapped inside the pump.
  • System pressure being too low, below the pump's minimum inlet requirements.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the system's water level and ensure it is adequately filled according to system specifications.

  2. 2

Increase the system pressure to the recommended level if it is too low.

  3. 3

Prime and vent the pump thoroughly before attempting to restart it to remove any trapped air.

  4. 4

Ensure all isolating valves on the pump's inlet and outlet are fully open.
