Lost Inverter Communications Lockout 48

Carrier · Heat Pumps

What does 48 mean?

The system is locked out for 120 minutes (2 hours) due to persistent loss of communication with the inverter. This can stem from loose or damaged harnesses, contactor issues, or faulty ODU control or inverter drive components.

Common Causes

  • Loose or disconnected harness (CC @ HP control, CC @ contactor, INVERTER @ HP control, INVERTER @ inverter drive)
  • Loose wire or shorted leads
  • Contactor not pulled in
  • Damaged Contactor Coil
  • Damaged ODU Control
  • Possible damage to Inverter Drive

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify all harness connections (Contactor, Inverter) for looseness, stripped wires, shorts, and secure seating at control boards.

  2. 2

If 18VAC-32VAC is present across the contactor coil but line voltage is absent across terminals 21 & 23, the contactor is damaged.

  3. 3

Confirm approximately 5VDC on pins 3 & 4 of the 'Inverter' pinout connection on the ODU control; if absent, the ODU board is damaged.

  4. 4

If ODU control checks out, first replace the ODU control; if the issue persists, then replace the inverter drive.
