SPS-mode active and P: Overload

Display shows 'SPS-mode active' and 'P: Overload' — Overload at secure power supply outlet

SMA · SUNNY BOY Solar Inverters

What does SPS-mode active and P: Overload mean?

The inverter is in secure power supply (SPS) mode, but the load connected to the SPS outlet is drawing too much power. This will cause a brief interruption of the voltage supply.

Common Causes

  • Load connected to the secure power supply outlet exceeds the inverter's capacity.
  • Insufficient solar irradiation to meet the demand of the connected load in SPS mode.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Reduce the power consumption of the load connected to the secure power supply outlet.

  2. 2

Disconnect some non-essential loads from the SPS outlet.

  3. 3

Wait 20 seconds; the inverter will automatically attempt to re-establish voltage supply.

  4. 4

Ensure sufficient solar irradiation is available for the PV system.
