Green LED blinking slowly — Waiting, Grid Monitoring

SMA · Sunny Boy Inverters

What does Green LED blinking slowly mean?

The inverter has sufficient voltage from the PV array but is currently checking the condition of the utility grid before connecting. This is a normal startup phase.

Common Causes

  • Normal startup sequence when PV voltage is sufficient.
  • Inverter waiting for stable grid conditions after a brief interruption.
  • Grid failure recovery (waiting 5 min before re-attempting connection).
  • Failed connection attempts (waiting 10 min after 3 consecutive failures).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Allow time for the inverter to complete its grid monitoring checks, especially in the morning or after grid fluctuations.

  2. 2

If the inverter fails to connect after multiple attempts, check for any other error codes or messages.

  3. 3

Ensure there are no external issues like an open AC disconnect switch or grid power outages.

  4. 4

If the condition persists and the inverter never connects, contact your installer for further investigation.
