Handwheel not available

Handwheel fault: Handwheel not available or cannot be assigned

Siemens · SINAMICS V70 Drives

What does Handwheel not available mean?

The handwheel cannot be used or assigned to an axis successfully, preventing manual control of machine movements.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect operating sequence for handwheel assignment or feed axis not selected
  • Short circuits in adjacent handwheel connections
  • Loose connection or damaged cable at PPU interface X10
  • No 5 V voltage output at PPU interface X10 (terminal 5/6)
  • Damaged handwheel or damaged PPU

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check if the operating sequence for handwheel assignment is correct and if the feed axis is selected in handwheel mode.

  2. 2

Check the connections on the handwheel for correctness and observe if there are any short circuits in adjacent connections.

  3. 3

Check the interface X10 on the back of the PPU for loose connections, damaged cables, or voltage output of 5 V at the interface (terminal 5/6).

  4. 4

Check whether the handwheel itself is damaged.

  5. 5

If the fault still exists after these inspections, professional replacement and maintenance are necessary as the PPU is likely damaged.
