Low/No Hot Water

Low hot water temperature or a complete lack of hot water

NIBE · SMO S40 Control Module

What does Low/No Hot Water mean?

The system is failing to provide adequate hot water or none at all. This can be due to various settings within the control module, external valve positions, or exceptionally high hot water usage.

Common Causes

  • Closed or throttled external hot water filling valve
  • Mixing valve (if installed) set too low
  • SMO S40 operating mode incorrect or additional heat not selected
  • High hot water consumption or low "Smart Control" access
  • Hot water demand or prioritisation set too low

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Ensure any externally mounted filling valve for the hot water is fully open.

  2. 2

If a mixing valve is installed in your system, adjust its setting to allow more hot water.

  3. 3

Navigate to menu 4.1 "Operating mode" and verify settings. If "Auto", increase "Stop additional heat" in menu 7.1.10.2; if "Manual", ensure "Additional heat" is selected.

  4. 4

If consumption was high, wait for recovery or activate "More hot water" via the "Hot water" home screen (menu 2.1) or myUplink for temporary boost.

  5. 5

Check menu 2.2 "Hot water demand" and select a higher demand mode if necessary.

  6. 6

In menu 7.1.10.1 "Operating prioritisation", increase the time for hot water prioritisation, keeping in mind this might reduce heating time.
