Red status lamp / Alarm bell icon

Red status lamp and alarm bell — Malfunction detected

NIBE · SMO 40 Control Module

What does Red status lamp / Alarm bell icon mean?

The NIBE SMO 40 has detected a malfunction that it cannot fix automatically. The status lamp will turn solid red, an alarm bell icon will show in the display, and an 'alarm' menu will be visible.

Common Causes

  • A general malfunction in the connected Heat Pump or the control module itself.
  • The system cannot automatically resolve the detected problem.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Turn the control knob and press OK on the display to view the specific alarm type and its meaning.

  2. 2

Read the 'info / action' section in the display for tips on how to correct the problem.

  3. 3

Try selecting 'reset alarm' in the display. If the status lamp turns green, the issue is resolved.

  4. 4

If the red light remains on and the 'alarm' menu is still visible, the problem persists.

  5. 5

As a temporary measure, you can select 'aid mode' in menu 5.1.4 (if an alarm action is selected) to produce heat/hot water using electric additional heat, but this does not fix the underlying problem.
