Alarm communication error — Heat Pump connection issue during commissioning

NIBE · SMO 40 Control Module

What does Alarm communication error mean?

This alarm may appear on the display during the initial commissioning process if the NIBE SMO 40 is started without a connected NIBE air/water Heat Pump, or if the Heat Pump is not properly recognized. It indicates a missing or unconfigured Heat Pump connection.

Common Causes

  • Commissioning the SMO 40 without a NIBE air/water Heat Pump physically connected.
  • The Heat Pump is connected but not deactivated in the SMO 40 system settings (menu 5.2.2 'installed slaves').

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

If you are commissioning without a NIBE air/water Heat Pump, deactivate the relevant Heat Pump in menu 5.2.2 ('installed slaves').

  2. 2

If a Heat Pump is intended to be connected, ensure it is powered on and properly wired to the SMO 40.

  3. 3

Reset the alarm in the display after making changes to the Heat Pump connection or settings.
