Flooding - Water valve stuck open

Hotpoint · Dishwashers

What does Water Valve Flooding mean?

Flooding can occur if lime builds up in the water valve, causing it to stick in the open position. This issue is more common in areas with hard water, especially without a water softener.

Common Causes

  • Lime (mineral) build-up in the water valve.
  • Extremely hard water (12 or more grains) without a water softener.
  • Water valve sticking in the open position.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Contact your water department to determine your water hardness.

  2. 2

If you have extremely hard water (12 or more grains), a water softener is recommended to prevent mineral build-up.

  3. 3

Regularly clean the Dishwasher and use appropriate detergents for your water type to reduce lime build-up.

  4. 4

If flooding occurs, immediately turn off the water supply to the Dishwasher.

  5. 5

Call for service if the water valve is stuck or if flooding issues persist.
