Foam residue in machine — Excessive detergent used

Hotpoint · Dishwashers

What does Foam residue mean?

After the wash cycle finishes, you notice foam residue remaining inside the Dishwasher. This indicates that too much detergent was used, or the wrong type of detergent was selected. Excessive foam can also lead to poor wash results and noise.

Common Causes

  • Exceeding the recommended amount of detergent.
  • Using washing up liquid or a detergent not specifically designed for Dishwashers.
  • Detergent not suitable for your water hardness or wash cycle.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Only use detergent specifically designed for Dishwashers; never use washing up liquid.

  2. 2

Consult the Table of wash cycles and detergent packaging for the correct amount of detergent.

  3. 3

Reduce the amount of detergent used in future cycles, especially if using tablets in models without the MULTI-FUNCTIONAL TABLETS option.
