Pump blocked

Pump stops and is blocked — Deblock the shaft

Grundfos · Heating Pumps

What does Pump blocked mean?

If the pump stops and the first LED is red, the pump's shaft may be blocked. This can happen if the pump has been turned off for an extended period, allowing mineral deposits (like lime) to seize it.

Common Causes

  • Pump shaft seized by mineral deposits (e.g., lime)
  • Pump left inactive for a long time

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Switch off the main power supply to the pump to prevent accidental activation.

  2. 2

Close the isolating valves on both sides of the pump to contain the liquid.

  3. 3

Locate the deblocking screw in the center of the control box and push it inwards using a star screwdriver (size 2 Phillips tip).

  4. 4

Turn the deblocking screw counterclockwise to free the shaft; repeat if necessary until it turns freely.

  5. 5

Switch on the power supply to the pump and check if operation resumes normally.

  6. 6

If the pump remains blocked or the red LED persists, contact your supplier.
